Houma, La. Interviewer Jenny Talya: Tommy, congratulations on your performance during the preseason game against the Indianapolis Ramblers. As a rookie, you had the opportunity to contribute on special teams and even in some nickel-and-dime packages. How do you feel about your overall performance during the game?

Tommy Wellbrock-Busse: Thank you, I appreciate it. Overall, I think my performance was solid, but there’s always room for improvement. As a rookie, getting the chance to step on the field and contribute in both special teams and defensive packages was an amazing experience. I felt like I adapted well to the speed of the game, but there are definitely areas where I can grow and make an even bigger impact.

Interviewer Jenny Talya: You made a couple of tackles on special teams, which is a crucial aspect of the game. How do you approach your role on special teams, and how do you plan to continue making an impact in that area?

Tommy Wellbrock-Busse: Special teams are often an underrated aspect of the game, but they can be game-changers. As a linebacker, I see my role on special teams as an opportunity to showcase my versatility and help the team in any way I can. I take my responsibilities on special teams very seriously and aim to be a difference-maker on every play. I’ll continue to work on my technique, study film, and collaborate with the special teams unit to make even more impactful plays.

Interviewer Jenny Talya: You also had the chance to play in some nickel and dime packages on defense. How did you feel stepping onto the field in those situations, and what did you learn from those experiences?

Tommy Wellbrock-Busse: Playing in nickel-and-dime packages was a great learning experience for me. It’s a different pace and level of intensity than special teams, and it requires quick decision-making and communication with my teammates. I felt confident in my abilities and trust in the coaching staff’s belief in me. I learned a lot from the more experienced players on the field and tried to soak in as much knowledge as possible. It’s an area I want to continue growing in and contribute more as the season progresses.
